Using the transformative power of colour and depth to promote peace and serenity
I painted in my teens, but life had other plans. I got swept up in the daily grind, studied politics and economics, and landed in the world of computers and software. Twenty-five years flew by, working, raising a family, but a nagging feeling persisted – was I making a real impact? That's when I took a bold leap into podiatric medicine, and found fulfillment treating patients. Yet, something was still missing. I yearned for a creative outlet. I tried various mediums, but watercolour won me over. The challenge was on, and I'm hooked.
My painting is an invitation — a quiet passage from the busy, fragmentary rhythms of everyday life into a place of calm, wonder and possibility. I work with colour, depth and layered surface to create moments where the viewer can become visually “lost” and, in that loss, discover a renewed sense of peace. A blank canvas thrills me because it is the literal beginning of that promise. I paint because art is my way of holding the world gently, to honour the outdoors, and leave traces of beauty. I paint to be fully human. Making art helps me move away from darkness in the world around me; it steadies my restlessness and channels energy toward something generous. The natural world is my constant teacher. My aim is not only to capture what I have lived but to offer something that makes someone’s life more joyful and more beautiful. If a viewer finds a moment of peace in my work, the painting has done its work. My vision is to translate the outdoors into paintings that are neither literal landscapes nor pure abstraction, but hybrid spaces in which memory, light and feeling coexist and to make work that is accessible, honest and life-affirming, contributing to a visual language of hope and sustained attention to the beauty that surrounds us.
